The Book of Malachi Lsn # 2, 'Since You Asked, I Will Tell You'
Just as the Exodus generation was challenged after being set free from a 400-year enslavement in
Egypt; Israel of Malachi’s day is being challenged to trust God after their ominous captivity
period of Babylonian enslavement.
Two Questions, one answer:
1. What is going to preserve our nation?
2. How can we possibly reverse the trend that exists today?
The answer is evangelism because only a maximum number of people receiving Jesus Christ as
Savior will do it; the salt of the earth principle is the only solution!
At this time during Malachi’s day, the Lord Jesus isn’t on the earth yet and there was a spiritual
breakdown among the people and a jealousy among the priesthood and this led to very serious
social problems and other various sin problems.
With Malachi calling his prophecy a burden, this tells us that his message is designed to rebuke
rather than offer comfort or encouragement to Israel’s 12 tribes which had recently returned from
Babylonian captivity.
God loved both Esau and Jacob to the extent that when the Lord Jesus Christ went to the Cross,
He died for the sins of Esau and He died for the sins of Jacob; He died for everyone.
The love God has for us at the moment of our salvation goes on forever and so it is with us as it
was with Jacob, the moment we believed in Christ, God loves us with a perfect unending love;
His character is perfect, His love is perfect and it cannot increase or decrease.
God’s love doesn’t change because it cannot change for any reason.
Religion is about the worst thing that can happen to a nation.
Occasionally in history, God says a nation must be destroyed and
why? Because if the nation is permitted to go on, the existence
of the human race will be threatened and quite possibly be destroyed by rabid dogs.
Under His (God’s) indignation forever, means that the majority of the people who were in the
country known as Edom were eventually removed from the earth.
The principle here that the priests would understand is: “You priests are going to be judged in
time because you are outside of My grace plan for you and yet you’re the ones who should be the
spiritual leaders of My people.”
The most self-righteous legalistic group of people that the Jews will ever have; making them the
worst group of people that Israel will ever have will be found around AD 30 when religion
reaches its saturation point in the land.
